Juanita Brockdorff, a Maltese warranted lawyer, brings with her a breadth and wealth of experience gained over two decades at a Big Four Accounting Firm. With a Master of Laws in International Tax Law, conferred by the University of Leiden in the Netherlands (summa cum laude) she started her career at KPMG in Malta as a tax advisor, worked her way up, and joined the partnership in 2010. As an international tax partner for 13 years, Juanita focused on international corporate tax planning and reorganisations, exchange of information, transfer pricing, cross-border double tax relief and estate planning, servicing multinationals and high net worth individuals. She was the Country Tax Leader for European Taxation, the Gaming Tax Partner, and the one servicing FS clients, from asset managers and funds to insurance underwriters.
Year on year she serves on the Council of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners for which she chaired the Tax Committee for well over a decade. Juanita is regularly invited to deliver presentations on current tax issues at both local and international conferences. Together with the Malta Academy for Taxation Studies, she founded the International Tax Conference in Malta, an annual event bringing together world class presenters discussing developments in the tax world. Her work was published in international tax reviews such as International Law Review, European Taxation, EC Tax Review, Intertax, and Captive and Art Review. Through her work at the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners (IFSP) she has provided advice to the Government on tax legislation and tax policy, in particular on EU-related matters.
For years, she lectured Advanced Taxation for ACCA and the course leading to the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) conferred by the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT). Juanita also used to act as examiner of tax dissertations submitted to the University of Malta to obtain the degree of Doctor of Laws. She acts as the Branch Secretary of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) in Malta.
Chambers & Partners reports that Juanita, a Band 1 lawyer, “is one of the most highly regarded tax specialists in Malta” and is “praised by peers for her initiative and prominence on the market”.
She is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Taxation (MIT) and Honorary Member of the Malta Institute of Management (MIM) and a member (Trusts and Estate Practitioner, TEP) of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
